We will be having a warm up game on tour in Chon Buri. For your convenience, we have given a choice of three weekends (originally two weekends, but a third was asked for by many at training today).

They are the weekends of Oct 15th, Oct 22nd (RWC final on Sun), or Oct 29th

It will be a 35 over game on Sat, and Sun will be either a standard 20/20 or a veterans game for over 45 year olds. This will be decided by how many old bastards put their hands up. Therefore, please state your age when selecting your preferred weekend.

The club will be covering costs of the bus over the 2 days courtesy of our sponsor Carl Taylor with his company Fircroft. Sensational stuff Carl! This will be perfect for those that can’t be arsed driving to and fro.

Speaking of sponsors, the Regal guest house will be the accommodation of choice. Additionally, the bus will be leaving from here to the ground and back. We do encourage people to stay here, however, those wanting to stay elsewhere are obviously entitled to do so.

Fellas, this is a great opportunity to get into form heading into cricket season, showing the club your strengths and getting to know your fellow team mates. As such it is a male only affair.

Mark Jayasinghe had a very unfortunate motor cycle accident and he fears he won’t be joining us on the field for the rest of the season, but still sent his best wishes from his sick bed. Get well soon mate, our thoughts are with you. Ps he’s in Rama IX hospital if anyone wants to visit.

We were joined by our sister from Chiang Mai Helen who in true Parrot styley scored the book and agreed to work for beer and vodka.

The Captain waddled out to the centre with the plan of batting first if we won the toss(a first for the Cocka’s) but proceeded to call tails and guess what it was a head.

So into the field we went against the side that had lead our division for most of the season. Only having 4 1/2 bowling options I knew we were up against it and had to field well. We did – with everybody giving their all and the bowlers all having to bowl full spells, they were all out for 152 off the last ball of the innings. So 6 an over it was, time to step up to the plate for our batters.

At 8-2 it looked like the Parrots batting voodoo was about to strike. Enter a 96 partnership and we’re back in the game. Some useful boundaries and 2 golden ducks later it was 10 to win off 6 balls, another 4, a run out and the rest of us chewing our nails, it was scores level with 1 ball to come and said press ganged beer drinker to face it. Our instructions ringing in his ears, get something on it and run, we don’t care whether it’s your teeth, nose, forehead or chin, bat or gloves optional – but RUN

HE DID AND WE WON

You’ll probably notice that I haven’t mentioned anyone by name, well that’s because it was a genuine team victory with everyone being able to look at their own performance and say if I hadn’t saved those runs we’d have lost.

Every single one of you who proudly took the field for our great Club can pat themselves on the back and say – I was part of that and we did it together.

I love you boys and how proud can a Captain be, we laughed and joked our way through a good solid performance in the field and batted well enough to bring it home.

A sizeable clutch of Parakeets and the Club Captain dived thirstily into the eskie with us and another bottle of vodka was soon history.

Much merriment on the CCI sponsored bus on the way back to the bar and great food from Chesa rounded off a fantastic day.

Well done to everyone who makes this Club so special to us all.

Grinning all the way through writing this and as proud as a proud thing on a proud day.
